Zifen (Eric) Zhuang

is a designer and artist from Xiamen, China.

He enrolled in the Foreign Languages Department of Nanjing University, majoring in English Literature, with a minor in Art and Cultural Innovation. While he was an undergraduate, he had many opportunities to meet artists and designers, as well as to identify his own direction and interests through practice.

本科就读于南京大学，主修英语文学，辅修艺术与文化创新。在本科期间，他有很多机会与艺术家和设计师交流，通过实践来找到自己的方向和兴趣。

During his study at Royal College of Art, he placed great importance on the concept of 'fluidity' in his work, as it served as a unifying and inspirational force across all facets of his practice. Fluidity, in his perspective, relates to identity, extending beyond just gender to encompass the development of his ever-evolving identity within cultural contexts, daily life, and the virtual realm. This fluidity offers him a unique vantage point, forever in motion, enabling him to capture and preserve various aspects such as context, curves, the body, memories, and intimate moments.

The dynamic nature of fluidity empowers him to alter the very essence of things and, in turn, presents opportunities for visual metaphors that accumulate through his creative journey. This ongoing process motivates him to continuously deconstruct and reconstruct his observations and emotions, translating and recreating moments and nuanced feelings from his experiences. He employs a visual language, often in the form of graphics or moving images, to communicate gently and metaphorically, favoring a deliberate, contemplative pace over declarative, didactic, or critical approaches.
