It’s rather difficult to find a person who has plenty of time to navigate through the sea
of books with much leisure in this transforming era. Instead, people driven by various
motivations come to bookstore to purchase books and end up placing them on the top
of the shelf. The entity of books gradually fades away whereas illusions haunting on it
flourish. Acoording to some, the act of getting the book enjoys much more importance
than the process of reading. I held a conceptual and private funeral for those books on
my shelf which I seldom read and endeavored to promote some thinking upon this topic.
This project consisted of a series of installation and paper works. I blended the paper into pulp and made them into the shape of graves each stamped with code. As for the paper works, I abstracted features from paper products used in traditional Chinese funeral and marks used in printing and added details from each book to recreate the fascinating process of making a book which originally rarely had the chance to appear in the pages and could only be quantified, converted and recorded into texts.
